When I was younger

One of the blogs I stalk (Mother's Pride) posted a hair story. Funny story and it reminded me of my hair story from when I was younger.

I was a teen...probably 16. One of those teens who knew everything. That burgandy hair colour was popular and I wanted it. So off I went to the pharmacy and bought some hair dye.

It was called Flirt. That should have been my first clue...too bad my values were not as good as they are now! It was a temporary wash out. Good...if I don't like it in a few washes it will be gone. I was sold...I took it to the counter and paid way too much money for what was about to happen.

I was a natural blonde. That is important...you need to know that. I took the product out of the box. I followed the directions. I thought I looked good. My family laughed at me. What did they know...they were old and not cool. You know how teens feel about their parents.

Everything was good until I started washing my hair. Being a teen it was probably a few days...I probably washed my hair twice a day or something ridiculious. That's when the problem started.

It wouldn't wash out. It was patchy...blond with this burgandy stuff. It kinda looked like an easter egg colour. I was getting worried. Now I thought my hair looked funny.

Being the smart teen I was I went back to that pharmacy and bought a box of nice and easy blond hair colour. It was a permament colour. Took it home, followed the directions and viola....my hair was a rainbow of colours.

Orange, blonde, easter egg pink and GREEN. I gave up. I didn't care. I was resigned to looking like a freak show. But my Mom would not have a freak show in her house. Not when my brother was getting confirmed and my relatives were coming. So she sent me to the salon.

I spent the whole day there while they tried to strip the colour. They couldn't. The hairdresser told me that blond hair is very porous and that's why the flirt wouldn't wash out. She also told me that when I used the nice and easy it caused a chemical reaction with the different dyes causing the rainbow effect.

I went back the next day to the salon. They had a few hairdressers try something. They called the colour experts...finally I walked out with dark brown hair. Now I felt like a French person. A french person with a very time consuming and expensive dye job.

The moral of the story....I will never colour my hair or let my daughters colour their hair. I will leave it up to the experts at the salon. I always think it could have been worse...all that dye could have at the hair and I could have ended up bald!

Native Canadians

Way up north in a spot called James Bay is a Native Canadian reserve. 4 times in the past few years it has flooded in the spring causing a mass evacuation of the people. This year they are going to emergency shelter 2 blocks from my house.

In the past few days it has caused a flurry of words and emotions about how everyone here feels about the native canadians and what is going on. I try not to comment or judge them either way. I am not native. I have no idea what their life is truly like. I do not know if they are getting a free ride as some say or struggling as others say.

All I know is last night when I saw the news and the images of the center with all the cots lined up for them I suddenly put myself in that place. Can you imagine being removed from your home with only a few hours notice, not being able to take your valuables knowing they were probably going to be ruined by flood water and to go stay with 300 people on a cot. It was those cots. They looked uncomfortable. They look cold and barren. It made the reality so vivid.

I thank God for what I have, for knowing right now I have a warm bed to go to. I pray for all those in the world who don't.

It's funny how things can happen and change your perspective all of a sudden. I am in a situation at work with a manager. It is not a nice time at work these past few days and I am caught in most of the backlash. It's consuming me...but seeing these cots has made me realize that the problems at work are trivial compared to what's going on in others lives. Those cots have shown me I need to let work go, concentrate on what I have in my life and help those who don't.

Ironic how God works sometimes.

Today I have decided to begin a new meme, and see if it catches on (doesn’t really matter if it doesn’t though!) It’s called the Monday Motivation Meme. I hope it will be a good excuse to forget those Monday morning blues, and focus on the week ahead, and what we can do for God in it!

The rules of the game are simple enough…just list 5 things you wish to achieve during the week ahead and hopefully get motivated!

It's not Monday...it's Friday. But I'll post for next week!

I am going to clean the basement out. There are tonnes of clothes to sort through (you know...winter vs summer, goodwill vs garbage) and some things I need to toss. It's getting very cluttered down there.
I am going to make choc chip cookies with my youngest dd. She loves doing that and I have not done it in a long time.
I am going to mass on Sunday. I am taking the whole family. And Tuesday dh and I will go in the evening.
I am going to talk to my boss at work (and try to contain my anger while doing so) about my coworker who is harassing me...it's at the point I want to say take the job and shove it. There are lots of jobs for nurses out there...I don't need this crap.
I am going to relax on my days off (except the day I clean the basement). Watch movies with dh, go to bed early and maybe take a nice bubble bath.

I tag anyone who wants to play...that means you TOM!
What’s your Monday Motivation list? Please post your links in the com-box. Cheers!

Look what I got!

The Rulez

2. Each player answers the questions about themselves.
3. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog.
