Gaudette Sunday

The Third Sunday of Advent is traditionally called "GAUDETTE SUNDAY" from the Latin word meaning to "rejoice". We rejoice because our salvation is closer, the time of Advent waiting is nearly over as the birth of Christ draws near. The Church emphasizes the joy which is in our heart over the Lord's upcoming birth.

The purple color of penance is lightened to a rose color. The rose candle is lite on the advent wreath and the priest wears rose coloured vestements.
